Bedlingtons are strong dogs with moderate levels of activity. They run fast, so a well-fenced play area is required. Since they don't thrive outdoors, these small dogs may live in an apartment provided with a safe exercise area. You can exercise your Bedlington by walking him, playing fetch, hiking, or jogging. They can also be trained for agility, tracking, or obedience. This overall quiet breed may be content on the couch, too.
Since they're intelligent, Bedlingtons are trainable, especially if you convince your dog that he likes to do what you make him do, or it's at least beneficial to him. Positive reinforcement, food, praises, and plays work best. In contrast, physical force and unpleasant words will only make them stubborn and disobedient. Bedlington puppies may also be destructive; crate training is advised to keep them away from any trouble when you aren't around.
